Back in the days when I was heavily into grunge (I think it was in 2002), the Lion City Hardcore scene was one of the most prominent back in Singapore.

Bands like Stompin Ground, Four Sides, Swirling Madness and Silent Sorrow were one of the most talked bands in underground hardcore music scene.

I can’t stop noticing some of my friends too are into the hardcore scene as well ….. main influences coming from bands like Gorilla Biscuits, Fugazi and Rollins Band.

For me, hardcore is a music of expression …. actually I was one of those fans as well (I was heavily into Fugazi) and the lyrics are powerful and positive.

Anyway it is one great scene for me and I like to bring you back in history and show you what I mean …..

With the buzz on the release of Chinese Democracy coming this week, let’s check how the new band perform their great stuffs LIVE.

With the new lineup complete, fronted by W.Axl Rose, Guns N Roses is still rockin’ bro.

It’s official.

The long awaited Guns N Roses new album will be released in one weeks time.

Chinese Democracy, the much delayed output, has been in a lot of news lately. Dubbed the new GNR, founding member Axl Rose is kinda the sole member since the “Appetite” days, followed by keyboardist Dizzy Reed ( the other member since the Illusion days).

The band is made up of guitarists Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails), Ron Thal aka Bumblefoot, Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer and keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman.

Talk about a big lineup ….. ;D .

I was browsing one of my favourite video sites, YouTube, and stumbled on this one. This is one killer drummer dudes ….. one of the upcoming for the future.

Meet Daniel Rodriguez.

He won the Guitar Center Drum Off competition back in 2006 and check out his age ….. he was only 22 back then.

I wish I had a drummer this good .. I mean talk about the drum rolls and dynamics beats that he put on  ….. it is simply amazing.

Check out his performance, sit back and enjoy the next, new and upcoming drummer in the years to come ……….

I mean record companies should be taking this dude and a sessionist ….. he’s got what it takes.

Is it true that the rock is getting back to be harder, heavier and as vulgar as it used to be?

Well that is the question that I ask myself recently with more and more rock bands are indeed shredding the music industry and that is what the fans want …… heavy and furious music to mangle their brains ( I am one of them ).

It is exciting to see that more bands are getting to the edge with shread guitar riffs, headbanging tunes that makes you wanna be in the MOSH Pit.

I’ve recently decided to explore new tunes and one act that is COOL, in my opinion is Children Of Bodom. I’ll talk more about that band later on but it seems that the heavier it is …… the more following it gets.

Rock acts in the alternative scene are dying out quite fast these days (Nickelback excluded), and more and more are just thrashing their way in the music business.

Speaking about the music business, it has gone downward spiral to say the least. Rap acts are controlling the market with bitches and boobs all across the MTV and radio play and I feel it’s thumbs down to that.

Being a grunge and alternative dude, I still prefer music to be as heavy as it can be and technicality in guitar riff just edge the songwriting masterpiece.

One of the most popular brands in the guitar making industry, Gibson, has unleashed what we called a lazy man’s guitar.

Grunge was the time where it got really started for me.

It is the music where a lot of people could relate to and it’s the music that push me to learn guitars. Back in high school, I would be jammin’ with my band (Jelly Bean) with songs from Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, L7 and Pearl Jam.

By the way, Grunge was an instrumental part of me in getting the sound I wanted in my band (Azure now known as Izzy Rocks) and my songs written are basically based on that type of genre.

Anyway it’s up to you out there to rate Grunge but what I can tell you, it is a scene that is still fresh in my head .

As Punk week is getting to a close ….. here’s is how all the shit started in Punk.

Since it is Punk week, I’ll be doing a review on this band called “Johnny Shameless and his minions”.

As regarded by the band under Punk sub-genre “Scum Rock”, this band from Singapore has every aspect of a Punk band with the black metal image.

The band’s sound is notoriously trashy punk with main musical influences coming punk rock legend GG Allin.

You may think it’s kinda like the Singapore’s version of Slipknot or Mushroom Head but I can tell their music is no way similar to the two.

Anyway this a take from their live performance and you can judge by how Punk or Scum they are.
